Job Title: IT Consultant
An IT consultant to provide comprehensive outsourced IT services for small to medium businesses (10 to 100 nodes) ranging from first tier helpdesk support to network administration. In addition to maintenance, consultants enhance enterprise operations by recommending, and implementing new technology systems and applications.
- Regular reoccurring visits to SMBs, maintaining their existing IT infrastructure (servers, workstations, firewalls, etc.), addressing any helpdesk needs, maintaining various backup solutions, and providing consultation on improving the client’s IT environment.
- Recommend, manage and implement IT projects such as network infrastructures design and builds, server and cloud based service migrations, and firewall installations.
- Manage and resolve disaster recovery situations such as down servers.
- Technical writing including network audits, IT policy development and disaster recovery / business continuity planning.
- Build and maintain client relationships.
Technical Skills Required:
Ability to install, configure, and provide technical support for MS Windows Server 2019 and > and MS Exchange 2010 and > in a Windows Active Directory environment; Ability to administer Office 365 services; Configuration and management of Cisco and SonicWALL firewall appliances; Ability to support and troubleshoot end user desktop operating systems (Windows 10 and >) and applications (i.e. MS Office 2016 and >).
Additional Skills Required:
Strong customer service and client management skills. Technical writing for network audits, IT policy composition, disaster recovery planning, and project proposals.
Office 365 SharePoint administration; VM Ware and / or Hyper-V design and support; Network security auditing with vulnerably and penetration testing; Mac OS X desktop support.
Simple web design, Access and / or SQL administration, Telephony; Any certifications
A typical week:
A typical week for an ITeck Solutions Consultant consists of two 4-hour on-site appointments each day of a Monday to Friday week in the greater Washington DC metro area. Appointments will consist of checking in with a client contact to receive a task list of helpdesk items such as troubleshooting end user issues, setting up new workstations, or researching and implementing new applications or services to address client needs.
After addressing the helpdesk tasks, the Consultant is responsible for maintaining the network infrastructure including reviewing servers for any issues, installing critical updates and patches, reviewing and testing backups, and monitoring the general health of the network.
In addition to hands-on maintenance, the Consultant is expected to review the clients’ business needs and workflow to provide project recommendations on how technology may enhance their job functions or increase productivity. This includes evaluating the current infrastructure such as servers, workstations, and equipment to determine when replacements and upgrades are in order. The consultant will be expected to propose, manage, and implement these projects, upgrades, and migrations.
Some clients will require on-call assistance outside of the regularly scheduled visits. The ITeck Consultant will need to balance their daily tasks to address these as priority of the request deems necessary.
Periodically ITeck Consultants are called on to perform network evaluations or audits. During this process, the Consultant will review the current infrastructure and the company’s needs. Based on this analysis the Consultant will provide a written report of findings and recommendations to address any shortcomings, improve the client environment and bring their processes, policies and infrastructure in line with industry best practices.
In addition to writing audit reports, the ITeck Consultant may be required to compose policies, procedures, IT master plans, disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Occasionally, there will be projects requiring weekend or after hours work. Full network down disaster situations, which also occasionally occur, require immediate attention no matter what day, time or current assignment.
